`Tories call for May to go while Labour considers a pro-EU deal to save her at the workers’ expense!
ON SUNDAY Prime Minister May in a panic-stricken move, after the Tory Party’s defeat in the council elections, urged Labour leader Corbyn to ‘put their differences aside’ and agree on a deal with the EU. Writing in The Mail on Sunday, she said they should ‘listen to what voters said’ in Thursday’s local elections. The Conservatives lost 1,334 councillors, while Labour failed to make John McDonnell’s expected gains of 400 seats, instead losing 82 seats.
There were over 30,000 spoiled ballots where voters abused both the Tory and Labour parties for stabbing Brexit in the back. Both major parties were thrashed by the electorate for their refusal to carry out the 2016 Referendum result which instructed the government to leave the EU.
May is now seeking to bury Brexit through an agreement with the Corbyn-led Labour Party to support a customs union, and a goods alignment with the EU that will keep the UK under the heel of the European Commission. Brady, the chairman of the 1922 Committee of Tory backbenchers, responded that staying in a customs union would lead to a ‘catastrophic split’ in the Conservative Party.
Former Conservative leader Iain Duncan Smith said: ‘As a result of the devastating local election result, the PM has in effect become a caretaker. Two discredited administrations making a discredited deal is not the answer to the electorate. ‘Theresa May must resign or the Conservatives should force her out,’ after the party’s heavy local election losses, says Iain Duncan Smith.
In fact her ‘new deal’, and her refusal to impose a ‘No Deal’ is a move for a national government with Labour. It will split both the Tory and Labour Parties and see up to 100 Labour MPs lining up with the Lib Dems, anti-Brexit Tories, and the Scots Nats to try and impose a second referendum onto the working class.
History is in fact repeating itself – as Marx said, the first time as tragedy and then as farce. On 25th January 1981 Labour Party leaders Roy Jenkins, David Owen, Shirley Williams, and Bill Rodgers known as the Gang of Four, broke with the Labour Party and launched the Council for Social Democracy, and then the SDP.
The role of this party was to split the Labour vote at a time when Thatcher was hated, and seemed to be on the ropes. The Gang helped maintain Thatcher in office, so that she could fight the miners and the printers to ‘save UK capitalism’ from the power of the working class and its trade unions. They then joined the Liberals forming the Liberal Democrats.
The modern version of the Gang of Four is the ‘Gang of 8’ Labour MPs who along with three Tories have set up Change UK, an organisation whose main purpose is see to it that no matter what, the UK remains in the EU.
They have already recruited three leading Tories, and are getting ready to recruit scores of MPs from both leading parties. In refusing to carry out Brexit and with their demand for a customs union, and an alignment alongside the single market, the Corbyn leadership of the Labour Party has played into the hands of these renegades.
There is no doubt that to maintain the UK in the EU, Labour’s deputy leader Tom Watson, plus over 100 pro-EU Labour MPs, will seek to remain in the EU by annulling Article 50, and imposing a second referendum.
They will not hesitate to break with, and break up the Labour Party, and join Change UK along with anti-Brexit Tories to sabotage and destroy the Brexit referendum result. The working class will not stand by and watch the anti-Brexit House of Commons force them to remain in the EU. Workers must take mass action through their trade unions. They must force the trade unions to call a general strike to bring down the Tories and bring in a workers government.
This government will leave the EU at once, nationalise the banks and the major industries to bring in socialism, and make common cause with the workers of the EU to replace it with the Socialist United States of Europe.
