Greek workers stage another mass demonstration in Athens as the struggle against the right-wing Karamanlis government and paramilitary police force continues
The Greek university students’ occupation committees have called for a mass demonstration next Tuesday in Athens. Marches are to be held in other cities as well.

Students held an open air concert yesterday in Athens city centre and the GSEE (Greek TUC) held a rally against the government’s 2009 Budget outside the Vouli (Greek parliament).

The GSEE building is still under occupation by students and workers despite the violent attack of some 300 workers orchestrated by the GSEE bureaucracy, to reclaim the building.

A 15-year-old school student was shot late on Wednesday night in the Athens district of Peristeri by an unknown gunman. Yiorghos Paplomatas was hit in his right hand and underwent surgery on Thursday.

He is a member of his school’s Student Council, a member of the All-Athens Schools Co-ordinating Committee and a member of the Communist Youth (KNE).

His father Kostas Paplomatas is a well known trade unionist and a member of the executive of the secondary teachers trade union OLME.

On Thursday afternoon thousands of demonstrating school and university students and workers were attacked by the armed riot police outside the Vouli (Greek parliament) building.

In the evening thousands of students, workers and trade unionists marched from the Athens city centre to Peristeri and staged a mass rally along with thousands more members and supporters of the Greek Communist Party and KNE.
