JOHN BREEN 1938-2010

John breen addressin a news Line Anniversary rally |
We are very sad to announce the sudden death of John Breen on Monday 15 February.
He was a lifelong member of what became, SOGAT, the printers union and had been Father of the Chapel for the News of the World before being sacked as a result of the battle to defend the print unions in 1986.
He was in the forefront of the famous year-long Wapping battle to defend the print unions from the union-busting measures of Murdoch.
He also gave everything he had in support of the miners during their great struggle of 1984-85 and produced an endless amount of support material during that time and subsequently.
In latter years, he gave his support to the children of Cuba, raising money for schools and visiting the country with the support of the Cuban trade unionists.<br />
<br />
John was a regular reader and supporter of the News Line. He was an ardent trade unionist all his life, a principled fighter for socialism, and relentless in his determination to struggle against injustice. <br />
<br />
John will not be forgotten. His tenacity and lifelong struggle will always be remembered.<br />
<br />
Our heartfelt condolences go to his wife, Doreen, and his daughters, Jane and Melonie, at this sad time.<br />
<br />
The funeral will be on Monday March 8th <br />
<br /> at 11.30am at Hither Green Crematorium
